BURN SERIES VIII

40”x60” | oil on canvas | 2019

About this work
Inspired by the catastrophic power of a fire in a field on my property. I took this painting outside and rubbed it in the ash after the fire had ceased. Please note that this painting may need more drying time before shipping due to the thickness of paint.

NEON LOSS

36″x36″ | oil on canvas | 2019

About this work
Informed by the layering of paint, one may pause to think of what it means to have something and then loose it. Please note that this painting is made with neon orange spraypaint.

IGNORANCE + JUDGEMENT

36″x36″ | oil on canvas | 2019

About this work
I have been working with the Tibetan Mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ which I discovered in a Cy Twombly painting. I have been doing works concentrating on each syllable of the mantra and it’s meaning. This painting started with the syllables ‘Pad’ and ‘Me’. Pad represents diligence which purifies igorance & judgement. Me represents concentration and purifies attachment. The painting is built upon these syllables which are painted over and masked. This is part personal journey and part social commentary … discussing the collective unconscious landscape of the times.

TOTEM I

11.25”x48” | oil on board | 2019

About this work
This work is inspired by the colour in sunsets of the Pacific Northwest. Working on a found board
informed the composition which brought to mind the rhythm of various totem poles that I have observed in this area. I’m intrigued at how the narrative in a totem works vertically.

ZWIELICHT II

40”x60” | oil on canvas | 2018

About this work
Insipired by the moody skies of the Pacific Northwest. ‘Zwielicht’ whilst meaning ‘twilight’ in German also refers to the german verb ‘zwielichtig’ which means shift, shady, seedy or unsavoury, even obscure – pointing to a sign of the times in which we live. Everything, today, is obscured and not clear.

LOSS II

36”x36” | oil on linen | 2018

About this work
A fire on my property and at my home, made me ponder the idea of loss. Here, paint indicates the
notion of existence and loss and the fragility of continuity.

ZWIELICHT

40”x60” | oil on canvas |2016

About this work
Insipired by the moody skies of the Pacific Northwest, this piece has two colours as an underpainting, where the light and the dark meet. ‘Zwielicht’ whilst meaning ‘twilight’ in German also refers to the german verb ‘zwielichtig’ which means shift, shady, seedy or unsavoury, even obscure – pointing to a sign of the times in which we live. Everything, today, is obscured and not clear.

COMPARISON VIEW II

36”x48” | oil on canvas | 2019

About this work
I have been working with the Tibetan Mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ which I discovered in a Cy Twombly painting. I have added the mantra to my landscape work. The work is gestural and graffitti-like. The essence of expression where our natural and urban worlds collide. This is part personal journey and part social commentary … discussing the collective unconscious landscape of the times.
