PROFILE

Danie Wood (she/her) is a West Coast Canadian visual artist with a multi-faceted practice in painting, design, digital exploration and conceptual installation. Born in London, England, Wood immigrated to Canada at the age of 10. Wood’s interdisciplinary work explores the tools and narratives necessary for navigating through our critical ecological challenges. She holds a BFA in Visual Arts from York University and is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Critical Ecological Practices at Emily Carr University. She lives, learns, and works with gratitude and respect on the traditional unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples including the T’Sou-ke, Scia’new, and the Pacheedaht Nations.

Profoundly influenced by Anselm Kiefer, Antoni Tàpies, and Paul-Émile Borduas, some of her techniques allude to the process of Les Automatistes. Control and its loss are very much alive in her work. In her mark-making, she endeavours to guide us back to our emotions and sensory experiences, which connect us to the world around us.
