LOSS II

About this work
A fire on my property and at my home, made me ponder the idea of loss. Here, paint indicates the
notion of existence and loss and the fragility of continuity.

About this work
Insipired by the moody skies of the Pacific Northwest, this piece has two colours as an underpainting, where the light and the dark meet. ‘Zwielicht’ whilst meaning ‘twilight’ in German also refers to the german verb ‘zwielichtig’ which means shift, shady, seedy or unsavoury, even obscure – pointing to a sign of the times in which we live. Everything, today, is obscured and not clear.

About this work
I have been working with the Tibetan Mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ which I discovered in a Cy Twombly painting. I have added the mantra to my landscape work. The work is gestural and graffitti-like. The essence of expression where our natural and urban worlds collide. This is part personal journey and part social commentary … discussing the collective unconscious landscape of the times.
